BCB Dismisses 11 Directors, Including Nazmul Hassan; Three Others Step Down

The BCB removed 11 directors from the board due to their absence from three or more consecutive meetings, as required by the board’s constitution. The removed directors include former president Nazmul Hassan and BPL chairman Sheikh Sohel, along with Manzur Kader, AJM Nasir Uddin, Anwarul Islam, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, Ismail Haider Mallick, Tanvir Ahmed, Obeid Nizam, Gazi Golam Murtoza, and Nazib Ahmed. Additionally, three other directors—Naimur Rahman, Khaled Mahmud, and Enayet Hossain Siraj—resigned, and their resignations were accepted.

All these directors, connected in some way to the Awami League, have been absent since the Awami League government was ousted on August 5. Nazmul previously served as sports minister, Shafiul was an MP, and Nasir was Chattogram’s former mayor during Awami League rule. Sohel and Nazib are related to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, while Mallick was close to Nazmul.

The BCB, which had 25 directors before these changes, now has only 10 remaining after these departures and an earlier death.

The BCB also established a committee led by director Nazmul Abedeen to review and suggest updates to the board’s constitution.
