Basit Ali criticizes Pakistan following heavy defeat to New Zealand in fourth T20I

Pakistan suffered a heavy 115-run defeat to New Zealand in the fourth T20I at Mount Maunganui, leading to harsh criticism from former cricketer Basit Ali.

After a thrilling victory in the third T20I, Pakistan’s inexperienced batting lineup faltered against the impressive pace attack of Zakary Foulkes and Jacob Duffy. New Zealand once again dominated Pakistan’s bowlers, with Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Shadab Khan failing to curb the run flow.

New Zealand posted a total of over 200 runs once again, highlighting Pakistan’s ongoing struggles with both bat and ball.

Ali, who played 19 Tests and 30 ODIs for Pakistan between 1993 and 1996, slammed the National T20 Cup, calling it a “waste of time,” a sentiment he echoed regarding the entire New Zealand tour.

Pakistan’s batters struggled throughout the chase, unable to cope with New Zealand’s disciplined pace attack. Foulkes and Duffy used their height to generate bounce and swing, leaving the Men in Green on the back foot.

With New Zealand securing a dominant 3-1 lead in the series, the final T20I in Wellington on Wednesday is now a mere formality.

New Zealand seals series with dominant 115-run victory over Pakistan

Chasing 222, Pakistan needed a standout performance, like Hassan Nawaz’s unbeaten 105 in the previous match, but Foulkes and Duffy dismantled the batting order, ensuring New Zealand’s series win.

Following the defeat, Basit Ali didn’t hold back in his criticism, suggesting that Pakistan should only compete against lower-ranked teams if they wish to continue with their current squad.

“Kids are not playing against us. If you want to keep this team, play against Nepal or Ireland. You’re just wasting time. Just like the domestic T20 tournament is a waste of time and money, this tour is the same. It’s better to play against Bangladesh,” Basit stated.
