In a sharp remark, Haque also targeted Asif Nazrul, accusing him of acting under political sentiment. He said Nazrul was “riding on a common anti-India feeling in Bangladesh” and that the decision was “completely uncalled for.”
Haque further blamed former Bangladesh Cricket Board official Aminul Islam Bulbul, alleging that he gave in to pressure instead of standing firm on the team’s participation commitments.
According to reports, discussions are now ongoing between India and Bangladesh to restore bilateral cricketing ties after months of tension following the controversy surrounding the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Bangladesh had earlier opted not to travel to India after their request to shift matches to Sri Lanka was rejected by the International Cricket Council.
Reports also claim that the interim government’s sports adviser allegedly pressured the Bangladesh cricket leadership over the decision to withdraw from the tournament, sparking further debate.
Haque added that Bangladesh’s pullout has damaged the nation’s cricketing image and could have long-term consequences for the team’s international standing.
