Bangladesh lost to West Indies despite dreaming of winning

In the Women’s ODI World Cup, Bangladesh girls came very close to winning against the West Indies but lost. Nigar Sultana Jyoti’s army was 5 runs away from victory as the Caribbeans were set a target of 141 runs. With 3 balls to spare, Bangladesh’s innings folded for 136 runs. West Indies won by 4 runs.

In reply to 140 at Mount Maunganui, the Tigress lost the wicket of Shamima Sultana in one run. Shamima goes back for a duck. He was trapped lbw by Hailey Mathews. Mathews also took the wicket of Sharmin Akhtar for 17 runs.

Nigar Sultana Jyoti’s collection of 2 wickets was 60 runs. Farzana Haque departed without adding any more runs to the scoreboard. Rumana Ahmed and Ritu Moni then departed on two consecutive balls off Afee Fletcher. Neither of them managed to put any runs on the scoreboard. As a result, the Tigress forces lost 5 wickets under pressure.

After losing 5 wickets, Bangladesh’s big hope Nigar Sultana Jyoti was dismissed for a personal 25 runs. He faced the most number of 77 balls for the team. The red-green representatives then had 65 runs on the scoreboard. Matthews hunts down the light. Fahima was also bowled out straight in the same over.

Salma Khatun shared a crucial partnership of 25 runs with Nahida Akhter after the loss of 7 wickets. He was dismissed for 23 off 40 balls by Stafanie Taylor. Jahanara Alam returned with a catch after scoring 8 off 10 balls. In the end, Nahida Akhter played fighting innings of 25 runs but the team did not win.
