His election solidifies his position at the helm of Bangladesh cricket following a period of significant turmoil.
A New Chapter for BCB
Aminul’s re-election marks a fresh start for the BCB, which has been striving for stability after the controversial removal of former president Faruque Ahmed.
From Interim to Permanent Leadership
Aminul Islam was first appointed as interim president on May 30, 2025, in response to an administrative crisis. His predecessor, Faruque Ahmed, was removed after the government withdrew his nominated directorship. Eight of the nine BCB directors had tabled a no-confidence motion against Faruque, citing serious allegations of mismanagement, including his unilateral decision to dismiss head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe without board consultation.
The situation worsened during the 2025 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), when the Durbar Rajshahi franchise failed to pay players and hotel bills, triggering a player revolt and government intervention.
Why Aminul Was Chosen for a Full Term
When the newly elected board convened on October 6, continuity and stability were prioritized. Aminul’s interim tenure was seen as a success in calming the political and administrative storms surrounding the BCB.
His primary task—overseeing a credible election process—was achieved despite several candidates withdrawing amid transparency concerns. His crisis management during the BPL fallout and steady leadership during the transition were key factors in his re-election.
With his position now confirmed, Aminul Islam will shift focus from crisis management to guiding Bangladeshi cricket forward, backed by the authority of a democratically elected board.
