The Bangladesh Cricket Board appointed the 55-year-old on a two-year contract through September 2028. Hemp previously worked with the Bangladesh women’s team as batting coach during the 2025 ODI World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan and the 2026 T20 World Cup Qualifier in Nepal.

“I enjoyed my time here and am obviously looking forward to this next stint,” Hemp said. He added that his previous experience with the players and the positive environment were among the reasons for his return.

Australia currently sit at the top of the women’s ODI and T20I rankings, making the series a significant early challenge for Hemp and his team. The three ODIs will be played at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on October 9, 11 and 14.

Hemp believes facing the world’s leading team will provide Bangladesh with an important opportunity to assess their progress.

“Australia are the number one side in the world in women’s cricket, both in ODI cricket and T20. It’s a really good opportunity for us as well. You want to play against the best players because you want to be tested. It’ll give us a really good indication of where we stand and what we can learn.”

The new Bangladesh coach also highlighted the importance of unity within the squad following a period of change around the team.

Hemp said his priority is to help the players focus on what they can control, build consistency and work together toward improving Bangladesh’s position in the rankings.

He also expressed confidence in the quality within the squad, saying his previous experiences with the team had been positive and that he had seen the players produce strong performances.

For Hemp, the Australia tour will be an early opportunity to assess Bangladesh against the strongest opposition while laying the foundation for the team’s next phase.
