India-Pakistan relations have been strained for decades, but recent events, including the Pahalgam terrorist attack and subsequent border clashes, have intensified scrutiny ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 clash between the two nations.
The video, released by PCB’s official handle, shows Naqvi entering the venue in Dubai for the official press conference and Asia Cup trophy photoshoot. He is seen warmly embracing Pakistan captain Salman Agha before approaching Suryakumar Yadav for a respectful handshake. The footage quickly went viral on social media, particularly following Naqvi’s controversial remarks dismissing the Pahalgam attack as “a drama.”
Later, Naqvi and Yadav were photographed alongside other captains, posing with the Asia Cup 2025 trophy.
Earlier, during the pre-tournament press conference, Yadav had notably avoided a handshake with Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha. While he greeted other captains, including Rashid Khan, and shared a handshake with Naqvi, Yadav and Agha maintained distance and did not engage in pleasantries or eye contact.
Amid calls for a boycott of Pakistan, the press event carried a tense atmosphere, with both captains appearing cautious in their interactions.
