Babar Azam Eyes Another Milestone as Pakistan Prepares for West Indies Test Series
After a commanding ODI series win against South Africa, Pakistan shifted its focus to a two-match Test series at home against the West Indies. This series marks the conclusion of Pakistan’s World Test Championship (WTC) cycle and presents a key opportunity for their star batter, Babar Azam, to achieve another significant milestone.
Babar Azam on the Verge of Surpassing Imran Khan
Known for his stylish and consistent performances, Babar is just 302 runs away from overtaking Pakistan cricket legend Imran Khan in the all-time run tally against the West Indies. Imran currently holds the fifth spot with 1,977 runs across all formats against the Caribbean side, while Babar sits at 1,676 runs.
Both players are also tied with 11 half-centuries each against the West Indies. A single fifty from Babar in the upcoming series will see him surpass the former captain in this record as well.
Recent Form Boosts Confidence
Babar comes into the series with solid form. Despite facing criticism for a lean patch during recent home Tests, he silenced doubters by amassing 193 runs in Pakistan’s series against South Africa, including three half-centuries, at an average of 48.25. His consistent performances will be pivotal to Pakistan’s chances against the West Indies.
Babar Azam joins elite club with 4,000 runs in all three formats.
Breaking Records Beyond Borders
This isn’t the first time Babar has etched his name alongside or above Imran Khan. In 2022, he broke a long-standing record held by the legendary all-rounder for the highest individual score by a Pakistani batter against Australia. Imran’s record of 82 runs, set in 1990 against Australia in Brisbane, was surpassed by Babar when he smashed an unbeaten 114 off 83 balls in a recent game.
As Pakistan gears up for their final WTC assignment, all eyes will be on Babar Azam, who continues to cement his place among the country’s cricketing greats.
