The 10th edition of the BPL was supposed to help the Bangladesh team prepare for the ICC T20 World Cup, but halfway through the tournament, the lack of competitive matches is still a major issue.
Babar is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 209 runs in five matches, just 25 runs behind Mushfiqur Rahim of Fortune Barishal. Before leaving Rangpur Riders for the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the 28-year-old highlighted the need for better pitches.
According to Babar, the pitches behave differently in day and night games, lacking consistent bounce and sometimes showing no spin or becoming slow and low. He believes the BPL needs to improve the quality of its pitches.
Batsmen have struggled to score freely, and the T20 tournament has seen fewer high-scoring matches. The highest total so far is Chattogram Challengers’ 193 for 4 against Fortune Barishal. This edition has yet to witness a score of 200 or more.
Babar’s comments reflect the reality of the BPL, with no individual centuries from batters and local players yet to take leading roles with the bat. The average first-innings total is only 149.7, indicating that the authorities have not delivered on their promise of providing T20-suited pitches.
