The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the sanction through an official statement on its website.

Breach Details

The incident occurred when Babar, frustrated after being dismissed at a crucial stage, struck the stumps in anger. Match officials deemed this act a violation of Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an international match.”

Babar accepted the sanction, and as a result, a demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record. No formal hearing was required.

Match Performance

In the game, Babar contributed 34 runs before falling to Lankan leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay in the 21st over. Despite his dismissal, Pakistan comfortably chased down Sri Lanka’s modest target of 212 inside 45 overs.

Series Recap

Babar ended the Sri Lanka ODI series with 165 runs at an impressive average of 82.50 and a strike rate of 74.32, highlighted by a commanding century in the second match. The knock marked his return to the hundred-run mark after a long interval, reaffirming his status as Pakistan’s batting talisman.

Babar Azam is set to feature next in the upcoming T20I tri-series involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, where fans will look forward to more match-winning performances from the Pakistan captain.
