Seamer Michael Neser makes a comeback in Australia’s squad, announced Friday, for the upcoming two-Test series against New Zealand, marking the only change in the otherwise predictable 14-man lineup.
The 33-year-old’s inclusion comes as young pace bowler Lance Morris, who sustained a side strain in the recent one-day match against West Indies in Canberra, misses out on selection.
However, Neser’s chances of adding to his two Test appearances seem slim, with Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood retaining their roles as frontline fast bowlers.
Chief selector George Bailey expressed confidence in Neser’s consistent performances over time, stating:

Bailey anticipates a tough challenge against New Zealand, acknowledging their formidable home record.
The series, commencing on February 29 in Wellington, marks Australia’s first Test assignment abroad since the retirement of David Warner, with Steve Smith slated to resume his opening partnership with Usman Khawaja.
Cameron Green is likely to maintain his position at number four, backed by Matthew Renshaw as a reserve batter, while Nathan Lyon remains the sole specialist spinner in the squad.
