Ashes rivals Australia and England will play a landmark day-night Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from March 11-15, 2027, to celebrate 150 years of Test cricket.
Cricket Australia confirmed the pink-ball Test, marking the first time Australia’s men’s team will play a day-night Test at the MCG. This follows the first-ever women’s day-night Test at the venue earlier this year, also contested between Australia and England during the Women’s Ashes.
The MCG holds a special place in Test history, having hosted the Centenary Test in 1977, which Australia won by 45 runs. A second Centenary Test was played at Lord’s in 1980 to commemorate the first England-Australia Test on English soil in 1880.

Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg called the upcoming match “one of the great cricket events”, highlighting its significance in both the heritage of the game and the evolution of Test cricket.
“The Centenary Test created many iconic moments—David Hookes’ five consecutive boundaries off Tony Greig, Rick McCosker batting with a broken jaw, and Derek Randall’s defiant century. I’m sure the 150th Anniversary Test will create its own lifelong memories,” Greenberg added.
This historic clash will not only celebrate Test cricket’s rich history but also ensure a larger audience can witness the spectacle under lights.
