Despite rising political tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, the tournament is likely to proceed as scheduled.
Political Tensions Nearly Jeopardized the Tournament
Serious doubts had emerged about this year’s Asia Cup after a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, claimed 26 lives. In response, India launched “Operation Sindoor,” targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
With diplomatic ties strained, the possibility of an India vs Pakistan match looked slim. However, hosting the tournament at a neutral venue and with the BCCI retaining hosting rights has helped keep the marquee clash on track.
India vs Pakistan on September 7
According to TimesofIndia.com, the high-voltage India-Pakistan clash is set for September 7, just two days after the tournament begins. The Asia Cup will follow a T20 format, featuring six teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and hosts UAE.
The format includes a group stage, followed by a Super Four phase, and culminating in the final on September 21. If both India and Pakistan progress to the Super Four, fans could see a second clash between the two on September 14 (Sunday).

Official Confirmation Awaited
Although the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has yet to release the official schedule, preparations are reportedly underway. All participating countries are currently awaiting government approvals to travel and compete.
Despite the Asia Cup encounter, a bilateral series between India and Pakistan remains off the table for now. The two sides are only expected to meet in multilateral tournaments like the Asia Cup or ICC events.
