Ashwin, who recently became only the second Indian bowler after Kumble to reach 500 Test wickets, is now just three wickets away from surpassing Kumble’s tally as India’s leading wicket-taker in Tests on home soil.
Having achieved the remarkable feat during the third Test against England in Rajkot, Ashwin’s impending milestone has captured the attention of cricket enthusiasts worldwide. With 348 wickets to his name in home Tests, Ashwin is on the verge of overtaking Kumble’s record of 350 scalps. Kumble, a stalwart of Indian cricket, retired with an illustrious tally of 619 Test wickets.
Reflecting on Ashwin’s exceptional achievement, former South African captain AB de Villiers hailed the off-spinner as a legend and emphasized his vital role in the Indian cricket team.
