Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is thrilled to confirm that Ashton Agar will return to the Steelbacks for the 2025 season.

Agar, who featured in six matches last year, including the Vitality Blast quarter-final against Somerset, will be available for the entire group stage this summer.

“I’m really excited to be back with the Steelbacks in 2025,” said Agar. “I had a fantastic time here last year, and playing in front of the Northamptonshire fans was a lot of fun.”

Agar made a strong impact with the bat during his previous stint, boasting an impressive strike rate of over 190 across six innings. His contributions were especially crucial in the season’s final stages. He smashed a blistering 31 off 14 balls in a rain-affected match against Durham and hit the winning runs in a historic victory over Lancashire Lightning at Emirates Old Trafford.

Beyond his on-field performance, Agar brought valuable experience to the squad, helping the Steelbacks secure four wins in their final five group matches.

“We had a great run last year, and I can’t wait to get back and hopefully push for a Finals Day appearance,” he added.

Chief Executive Ray Payne expressed his excitement about Agar’s return.

“Ashton is an outstanding player and a fantastic person to have in the squad. His skills and experience played a significant role in our strong finish to the T20 Blast last year. We’re delighted to welcome him back and look forward to seeing him in a Steelbacks shirt again in 2025.”
