Aminul Islam Appointed Chair of BPL Governing Council as Bangladesh Cricket Board Enters New Era

Bangladesh cricket is entering a new chapter, and Aminul Islam Bulbul is at the center of it. The former national captain and recently re-elected BCB president has been appointed to lead the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Governing Council, signaling a dynamic start for the board’s new four-year term.

Aminul Islam Appointed Chair of BPL Governing Council as Bangladesh Cricket Board Enters New Era

Fresh Start for BCB’s New Regime

In its first board meeting post-elections, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) assigned key committee roles to its directors at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur. The moves set the tone for a more structured and optimistic approach to cricket administration in the country.

While there were some surprises—such as vice-president Faruque Ahmed being absent from any committee—he clarified to Cricbuzz that he intended to “take it slow” after recently returning to the board and would contribute to the best of his ability.

Aminul’s Expansive Role

Aminul Islam’s responsibilities extend beyond the BPL, as he will also chair the Working Committee and Grounds Committee, making him a central figure in both on-field and off-field operations.

Assisting him in the BPL setup is Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, named Member Secretary of the Governing Council and head of the Umpires Committee. Mithu confirmed that the upcoming BPL edition will proceed as scheduled in its traditional December-January window.

Former Players in Key Positions

The new board has also involved former players in crucial roles. Khaled Mashud Pilot, ex-Bangladesh skipper, will oversee the High Performance Unit, while ex-spinner Abdur Razzak takes charge of the Women’s Wing. Pilot summed up the mood of the board:

“There are 25 directors here. This is a team that works together. The ideas are coming from everywhere.”

Roadmap Ahead for Bangladesh Cricket

The BCB has now formed committees covering all aspects of the game, from finance and facilities to marketing and player welfare, aiming for a more professional, transparent, and structured cricketing ecosystem.

Additionally, there is a push to include a female representative on the board, with Rubaba Dowla emerging as the frontrunner, as reported by Cricbuzz.

With Aminul Islam at the helm, Bangladesh cricket’s governance is poised for a major reboot. The BPL, as the premier domestic event, is expected to benefit from enhanced professionalism, financial stability, and increased fan engagement under his leadership.
