The eight-team event, featuring sides from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and others, will take place in Doha, Qatar, from November 14 to 23.
Bangladesh A will kick off their campaign against Hong Kong on November 15 and wrap up the group stage with a clash against Sri Lanka A. The squad features several promising and experienced players, including Ariful Islam, Abu Hider Rony, Ripon Mondol, Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan, and Jishan Alam, with Akbar Ali named as captain.
Akbar Ali to lead a well-balanced Bangladesh A side
Wicketkeeper-batter Akbar Ali, a familiar name in Bangladesh’s domestic circuit, brings solid experience to the leadership role. Having played over 90 domestic matches, he has amassed 1,853 runs at an average of 27.65. Akbar, who has also represented Rajshahi and Khulna Tigers in the BPL, recently posted scores of 40, 44, and 28, showcasing consistent form ahead of the tournament. In T20s, he has scored 1,033 runs in 77 matches, with two fifties and a strike rate of 133.63.
Rony and Ripon add experience to the pace unit
Left-arm pacer Abu Hider Rony, who made his T20I debut for Bangladesh in 2016, returns to the national setup through this tournament. Having played 13 T20Is and taken 6 wickets, Rony is known for his yorker accuracy and death-over bowling. Though out of the national side since 2018, he has continued to perform in domestic leagues, including the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Ripon Mondol, another young pacer, made his international debut in 2023 and impressed with 4 wickets in 3 T20Is. In domestic cricket, he has collected 31 wickets in 23 matches, including a steady run for Barishal in the latest BPL season.
With a well-rounded mix of top-order batters, dependable all-rounders, and skillful pacers, Bangladesh A will be aiming to make a strong impression in the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025.
