The experienced batter joins the Amsterdam-based franchise with the aim of helping establish a strong cricketing culture while supporting the growth of the sport across Europe. Rahane’s signing is seen as a major boost for both the franchise and the newly launched league, which is looking to expand cricket’s footprint across the continent.

With more than 190 international appearances for India across formats, Rahane built a reputation as one of the game’s most dependable batters and respected leaders. Renowned for his calm temperament, technical excellence, and leadership qualities, he is expected to play a key role both on and off the field for Amsterdam Flames.

Welcoming Rahane to the franchise, Steve Waugh, Co-Founder and Chief Cricket Officer of Amsterdam Flames, described him as the ideal professional, praising his skill, resilience, humility, and leadership. Waugh said Rahane’s vast experience and winning mentality would be invaluable in building one of Europe’s premier cricket clubs.

Expressing his excitement about the move, Rahane said cricket has given him so much throughout his career and that he believes players have a responsibility to leave the game in a better place. He added that Europe represents one of cricket’s most exciting frontiers, and he was impressed by Amsterdam Flames’ long-term vision of creating a lasting impact both on and off the field.

ETPL Co-owner Abhishek Bachchan welcomed Rahane to the league, calling his signing a significant milestone for the competition. He said players of Rahane’s stature will not only raise the quality of cricket but also inspire and mentor the next generation of European cricketers.

Amsterdam Flames CEO Tim Thomas echoed those sentiments, describing Rahane’s arrival as a defining moment for the franchise. According to Thomas, the veteran’s professionalism, experience, and leadership perfectly align with the club’s ambition of building a successful organisation while contributing to cricket’s long-term development in Europe.

Rahane’s signing further strengthens Amsterdam Flames’ vision of becoming one of the flagship franchises in the ETPL. Co-founded by Australian cricket legend Steve Waugh, the franchise aims to combine elite cricketing talent with long-term player development as it looks to help shape the future of cricket across Europe.
