Ajinkya Rahane Fined ₹12 Lakh for Slow Over-Rate in IPL 2026 Match in Chennai

Chennai Super Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 32 runs in their IPL 2026 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, as KKR’s poor run of form continued in the ongoing season.

It was another disappointing outing for KKR, with captain Ajinkya Rahane facing added pressure amid both team struggles and disciplinary setbacks. Rahane was fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match, marking KKR’s first such offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct.

KKR’s campaign has been far from ideal, with the franchise still searching for consistency. The three-time champions have endured a difficult start, suffering defeats against Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, and now CSK, while also having one match washed out against Punjab Kings.

The defeat against CSK also extends KKR’s worrying losing streak, with the side now having lost six consecutive IPL matches, a run that matches their second-worst streak in tournament history.

In the match, CSK posted a competitive total of 192/5, with notable contributions from Sanju Samson (48) and Dewald Brevis (41). Kartik Tyagi was the pick of the bowlers for KKR with figures of 2/35.

In response, KKR managed 160 runs in their chase, with Ramandeep Singh top-scoring with 35, as the rest of the batting lineup failed to build momentum, falling short of the target once again.
