Afghanistan’s renowned spinner, Noor Ahmad, has received a 12-month ban from the ILT20 based in the UAE for breaching his player agreement with the Sharjah Warriors, according to an announcement made by the tournament’s governing body on Tuesday. Noor Ahmad, who represented the Warriors during the inaugural season of the tournament in January-February 2023, declined to extend his contract for the following year, which would have seen him participate in the 2024 edition of the league.
In its statement, the ILT20 confirmed the sanction, stating, “The International League T20 has imposed a 12-month ban on spinner Noor Ahmad for violating his Player Agreement with the Sharjah Warriors, who had enlisted him for Season 1 of the tournament. Despite being offered an extension for Season 2 on the same terms and conditions, Noor refused to sign the retention notice.”
Furthermore, the statement elaborated on the circumstances, explaining, “Noor played for the Sharjah Warriors in Season 1 of the ILT20 (January-February 2023), and the team sent him a retention notice, adhering to the terms of the Player Agreement for Season 2.”
Initially, a three-member disciplinary committee suggested a 20-month suspension. However, after factoring in Noor’s status as a minor at the time of signing the contract with the Warriors and his assertion that he was not fully informed of the terms by his agent, the ban was reduced to 12 months.
Despite the setback, Noor Ahmad participated in the SA20 2024 tournament ahead of the ILT20, representing the Durban Super Giants. Additionally, he is set to showcase his talents in the Indian Premier League 2024, playing for the Gujarat Titans, the champions of 2022.
