Adam Griffith has been named Cricket Australia's new national fast bowling coach.

Cricket Australia (CA) has appointed Adam Griffith, a seasoned coach and former Tasmania fast bowler, as the new national pace bowling coach. This role has been reinstated to focus on developing Australia’s next generation of fast bowlers and ensuring better management of their workloads across international and domestic cricket.

The position, first advertised in October, aims to address the recent surge in fast bowling injuries and implement a more coordinated approach to player development. Griffith, 46, will work closely with Australia men’s head coach Andrew McDonald and bowling coach Daniel Vettori, while reporting to CA’s head of national teams, Ben Oliver. He brings a wealth of experience, having coached across multiple domestic and international platforms, including roles with Tasmania, Victoria, Hobart Hurricanes, Perth Scorchers, and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL. Most recently, he worked with the San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket (MLC).

Griffith’s new role comes at a crucial time for Australian cricket, as the team’s key pace trio—Pat Cummins (31), Mitchell Starc (34), and Josh Hazlewood (34)—are nearing the stage where they may not play across all formats consistently. Based in Brisbane at CA’s Centre of Excellence, Griffith will develop a national strategy to groom fast bowlers, manage their preparation, and provide coaching support for Australia A teams and the national side when Vettori is unavailable.

Griffith will also act as a liaison between CA’s high-performance unit and state cricket programs, an area where friction has existed over the management of contracted bowlers. His strong connections with players such as Jhye Richardson, Cameron Green, Riley Meredith, Nathan Ellis, and emerging talents like Sam Elliott and Will Sutherland highlight his impact at various levels of Australian cricket.

Having worked extensively in the IPL, Griffith has experience navigating the challenges of managing players’ commitments to franchise leagues while preparing them for international duties. His time with RCB, coaching players like Green, Hazlewood, and Mohammed Siraj, will prove valuable as CA balances these evolving demands.

Australia men’s head coach Andrew McDonald praised the appointment, saying, “Adam’s expertise across all formats will be invaluable in preparing our pace bowlers for the demands of international cricket.”

Griffith will complete his tenure with Victoria as their bowling coach under Chris Rogers, where the team is currently performing well in the Sheffield Shield and Dean Jones Trophy. He will then relocate to Brisbane to take up his new position, marking the next chapter in his distinguished coaching career.
