Team India opener Abhishek Sharma delivered a breathtaking performance, smashing his second T20I century in sensational fashion against England on Sunday, February 2, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The explosive left-hander reached his hundred in just 37 balls, showcasing his aggressive stroke play in the final match of the five-match series.
Abhishek started the series with a brilliant 79 off 32 balls in Kolkata but struggled to convert starts in the following games, scoring 12, 24, and 29. Heading into the fifth T20I, he had accumulated 144 runs across four matches. However, he saved his best for last, launching a brutal assault on the English bowlers.
A Century in Style
Initially cautious, Abhishek shifted gears dramatically after taking 18 runs off Jofra Archer’s second over. He continued his boundary spree, bringing up his fifty in just 17 balls. His acceleration was relentless, racing to 98 off 34 deliveries before nudging a single to complete his century in just 37 balls.
This marked his second T20I hundred, following his 100 off 47 balls against Zimbabwe in July last year. He remained unbeaten at the crease, driving India’s innings forward despite wickets tumbling at the other end.
India Power On Despite Wickets Falling
Opting to bat first, India have been scoring at a blistering rate of over 12 runs per over. While Abhishek continues to dominate, wickets have fallen regularly, with Hardik Pandya (9 off 6) being the latest to depart.
As of 15 overs, India stand at 194/5, with Rinku Singh joining Abhishek at the crease. With a 3-1 series lead already secured, India will look to cap off their T20I campaign on a high before shifting focus to the upcoming three-match ODI series, starting February 6.
