Abhimanyu Easwaran Eyes Test Berth as India A Gears Up for Australia Tour Under Ruturaj Gaikwad

As the countdown begins for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), India’s preparations include a crucial shadow tour by India A to Australia. The tour offers a vital opportunity for both India A and Australia A to test their bench strength in two unofficial Test matches, while also providing Indian fringe players a chance to acclimatise to Australian conditions.

The tour starts with the first match on October 31 at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, followed by the second encounter at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 7. After these matches, India A will take on the senior Indian side in a warm-up game from November 15 to 17 in Perth, their final tune-up before Rohit Sharma’s men face Australia in the first Test at Optus Stadium on November 22.

Ruturaj Gaikwad Leads a Promising Squad

Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead a 15-man India A squad, guiding a mix of experienced and emerging talents eager to stake their claim for future international roles. Gaikwad’s leadership will be pivotal as India looks to groom potential backups, especially in the batting department. Openers Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sai Sudharsan, for instance, could be contenders for a spot in the Test squad, particularly with the possibility of Rohit Sharma missing one of the first two matches due to personal reasons.

In the middle order, the squad features talented batsmen like Devdutt Padikkal, Ricky Bhui, and B Indrajith, who will be looking to impress selectors with solid performances. Wicket-keeping duties will be shared by Abishek Porel and Ishan Kishan, both of whom bring unique strengths to the table. Meanwhile, all-rounders Nitish Kumar Reddy, Tanush Kotian, and Manav Suthar add depth to the squad, while the fast-bowling unit—comprising Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Khaleel Ahmed, and Yash Dayal—aims to make a mark on Australian pitches.

Easwaran’s Moment to Shine

For Abhimanyu Easwaran, this tour is a critical audition for a Test spot. The 28-year-old has been in scintillating form, piling up centuries in the Duleep Trophy and Ranji Trophy, showcasing the kind of consistency that could earn him a nod from selectors. Similarly, Sai Sudharsan’s recent century for Surrey in county cricket and a double ton in the ongoing Ranji Trophy make him another exciting prospect.

This Australia A tour represents a golden chance for these players to prove their mettle, both for their individual careers and for the strength of Indian cricket.
