Aaron Jones has been dropped from the USA squad for the World Cup League 2 (WCL-2) tri-series, which kicks off on Friday, October 25. His exclusion follows his decision to play for the St. Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) instead of joining the USA for their tour to Namibia. As a result, the selection committee has chosen to maintain the same squad that participated in the previous tour to Namibia in September.
According to a Cricbuzz report, Jones’s choice to prioritize the CPL, despite warnings from the board, has displeased the selection committee. He participated in the CPL as a local player and did not need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from USA Cricket. Jones has been a key player for the USA since his debut in 2018.
Despite his impressive performances in the CPL, which drew significant attention, reports suggest he may soon lose his place in the T20I setup. Additionally, Sanjay Krishnamurthy, who scored an unbeaten 167 runs for USA-A against Scotland, has also been left out of the squad. This omission comes after Krishnamurthy’s remarkable performance during a match where he was leading the chase against Namibia.
