Australia’s Road to the Champions Trophy Semi-Finals
A thrilling opening win, followed by two rain-affected matches, secured Australia’s spot in the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Their journey has been one of resilience, overcoming setbacks, and making the most of the opportunities that came their way.
Despite losing five key players before the tournament even began, Australia showed remarkable grit and determination to stay in the hunt for the title.
Their campaign kicked off with a dramatic victory over England, where they pulled off the highest-ever run chase in an ICC event, chasing down 352.
In the first innings, Ben Dwarshuis, Adam Zampa, and Marnus Labuschagne picked up multiple wickets, but England’s Ben Duckett stole the show with a brilliant 165, powering his team to 351/8 in 50 overs.
Australia had a shaky start in the chase, but Matthew Short and Alex Carey steadied things with crucial half-centuries. The real game-changer, however, was Josh Inglis, whose unbeaten 120 guided Australia to a stunning victory in Lahore.

Their next match against South Africa was washed out without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain in Rawalpindi, resulting in both teams sharing points.
A similar fate awaited them against Afghanistan, where rain once again played spoilsport. Afghanistan had set a competitive target of 273, and Australia looked well on course at 109/1 in just 12.5 overs before the game was abandoned in Lahore. With that, they secured their place in the semi-finals.
Now, Australia is set for a high-stakes showdown against India in Dubai on Tuesday, with a spot in the tournament final on the line. The winner will move on to the title clash on Sunday, March 9.
